New Virginia “LOVE” Sign Calls for Art Submissions

VIRGINIA – The “LOVE” signs have been an iconic staple of Virginia for over 50 years, and the next one could be designed by you.

The Eastern Shore of Virginia Tourism Commission is calling on all local artists to help create the newest “LOVE” sign for the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel Welcome Center.

There are over 300 signs across the state of Virginia, but this will be only the fifth one built on the Shore.

The design should reflect the entire region of the Chesapeake Bay. Megan Lawson, the Director of Destination Development for the commission, wants artists to draw from their own memories of the Shore, with the hope that a new sign will bring more tourists. The goal of the “LOVE” signs on the Eastern Shore is to encourage visitors to explore the area.

“The Eastern Shore is 70 miles long,” Lawson said. “We want people to get off Highway 13 and explore the towns.”

Not from Virginia and wish to submit a design? Not a problem! Anyone who has been impacted by the Eastern Shore of Virginia is encouraged to submit their artwork.

Submissions can be emailed to Megan Lawson at mlawson@esvatourism.org. Submissions are due July 31st.
