Wicomico County officials break ground on new Fruitland Primary School
SALISBURY, Md. — Officials in Wicomico County gathered Friday morning to break ground on the new Fruitland Primary School. The project will revamp the current facility and is likely to be built behind the existing school. It is expected to welcome students in Fall 2027.
County Superintendent Dr. Micah Stauffeur is excited to see this long-awaited project moving forward.
“I think it’s exciting for the students and staff who will benefit from the learning it will produce in the future.”
However, things weren’t always certain, according to County Councilman Jeff Merritt. State funding discrepancies could have delayed the project.
“We felt this was important to keep on schedule, because the longer we wait, the more expensive the parts will become. The longer we push it down the road, the more the costs will escalate. It’s going to be nice to bring a new school into the inventory with all the modern amenities, like Mardela and Beaver Run.”
Construction has already begun.
