Maryland Board of Public Works approves $4.3 million for Wicomico County clean water projects

WICOMICO CO., Md. – Wednesday, the Maryland Board of Public Works approved $4.3 million in funding for safe drinking water and resiliency against flooding in Wicomico County.

$3.4 million of that money will help fund a project to reduce flooding and water pollution in Fruitland.

In Pittsville, more than $900,000 will be used to upgrade its water treatment plant.

That’s in addition to an $800,000 block grant and more than $32,000 in local funding Pittsville has already received.

The project itself will include the replacement and repair of equipment at the facility.

Pittsville’s town manager says when the repairs are done, the aging facility will be good as new.

“It’s pretty much going to be a brand new plant that’s going to provide good water for the folks and it’s really the way to go,” said Joseph Mangini, Town Manager of Pittsville. “Now’s the time to do it especially with what’s the situation going on in Washington and Annapolis, so now is the time for us to get this done.”

The town expects to have the new plant ready by mid-summer.
