Congressman Harris Not Giving Up On Health Bill

President Donald Trump and Republican leaders pulled their Health Care Bill off the House floor Friday afternoon after it became clear it would fail.

Many in the beltway are calling it a stunning defeat and a poor attempt to fulfill campaign promises, but a local representative Congressman Andy Harris still believes that representatives can come together to reach a resolution.

"We couldn't come to a resolution today but that doesn't mean we can't come to a resolution in the future," said the Congressman. "I had come to the conclusion that this really was going to bring down healthcare costs and it was going to do it enough that Americans would get relief from the high premiums. So, I was ready to go ahead and go for it and send it to the Senate to see if they could improve even further on it.

"I hope people take a deep breath, go home for the weekend and come back ready to roll up their sleeves and come to a solution that we can agree on," said Congressman Harris.

Congressman Harris isn't the only one weighing in. Delaware Senator and Democrat Tom Carper also issued a statement saying "We can improve the Affordable Care Act if Republicans give up on their unrealistic mission to repeal it. As evidenced by today, they've failed at going it alone. But instead of throwing up their hands and complaining, Republicans should reach across the aisle to see what we can do together to continue the progress we've made over the past seven years. We can reduce health care costs and give consumers more choices if we stop playing political games and get serious about how to deliver results for the American people."

The bill would have ended Obama's Medicaid expansion and trimmed future federal financing for the federal-state program, letting states impose work requirements on some of the 70 million beneficiaries.
