H.S. Football Preview: Sussex Tech Ravens

The Sussex Tech football team is looking to build off another great season and return to the playoffs in 2016. The Ravens though have gone through a complete offensive and defensive makeover this season though as they adjust to their new strength, speed.

The Ravens the last few years have been strong upfront and have had a horse in the backfield between Kani Kane and Patt Griffin. Both players have since graduated and went on to college, opening the position for some of the Techs new talent to step in. While their is still plenty of talent on the roster, the team has made serious adjustments to their style of play to suit their new strengths. The Ravens will have speed on the outside and in the backfield. Head Coach Mark Quillin plans to transition on offense to more of a no huddle, up-tempo offense. Tech will have 4 capable backs, headlines by Isaiah Brown. On top of that, the team will be transitioning from Justin Hill under center to Tyzhir Morris. Hill as more of a game manager and pocket passer, while Morris has shown the ability to get outside the pocket and break big plays with his legs. Because of this, the team plans on running more options and roll outs this season. This trend of speed carries over to the defense as well, where the team no longer will be the big, hard hitting unit, but rather speed on the edges and able to gang tackle the ball. Tech has challenged themselves early in camp after several players will be asked to take new roles with a team featuring just 10 seniors.

Sussex Tech opens up their season on September 8th when they host AI duPont.
