ACLU of Delaware honors La Esperanza for their service
Kandler Awards
DELAWARE- The ACLU of Delaware held its annual Kandler Awards ceremony on October 16th, where they recognized Sussex County’s non-profit La Esperanza.
The Kandler Award is given to community members and organizations that have fought to protect and expand civil liberties. Delaware’s second-largest service agency for Hispanic residents and immigrants, La Esperanza, has fought for the civil rights of the Latin community on the peninsula.
Mike Bricker, president of the Delaware chapter of ACLU says as we end Hispanic Heritage Month, it was only right to acknowledge all the work they’ve done. “Sussex County is the fastest-growing county on the Eastern Seaboard and a lot of that is due to immigrants coming to our community who are working and living, and contributing… It’s really important to remember that we are a nation built on immigrants.”
If you or anyone you know in the Hispanic community is in need of services, please direct them to La Esperanza’s website. For those interested in joining the Delaware chapter of the ACLU, feel free to fill out an application online.
