Wi-Hi cuts ribbon for new brick garden

Celebrating Alum

SALISBURY, Md. – It was almost like a class reunion at Wicomico High School, Friday, as alumni from practically every graduating class helped cut the ribbon to the Memorial and Legacy Brick Garden.

The garden sits right at the front of the school. Speckled throughout, you’ll find bricks with names and graduating years, some dating back to the 50s.

1977 alumna, Donna White, helped bring the project to life. She said the memorial helps remember Wi-Hi alumni from all walks of life.

“It doesn’t have to be somebody that’s deceased, it can be a memorial, somebody that wants to just be remembered for the class that they graduated in, so it’s a mix of people that have passed on, as well as people that are current alumni,” White said.

And for the students of the 21st century, Paul Butler said this will give them a snapshot into the past and a sense of pride in the school.

“When they walk by, they get to see some of the bricks that are mentioning positive things, giving them hope in school,” Butler said.
