Women Supporting Women is hosting annual Awareness Walk

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Salisbury, Md. – October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and women along the Eastern Shore are walking to show support.

Women Supporting Women, started in 1993 by three local women Harriette Fine, Carol Prager, and Sue Revelle, is holding their 23rd Annual Walk for Awareness this weekend. Survivors, their families, and friends are encouraged to walk to spread awareness of breast cancer.

Raven Cook, the PR and Marketing Coordinator says they take this time collectively to grieve and educate the community. She says many people don’t realize how many people on the Eastern Shore despite their name and added that women aren’t the only ones they support.

“It’s extremely common for people who haven’t had breast cancer, or who are not experienced with the disease, to think that ‘Oh it’s breast cancer, and men can’t have breast cancer.’ That is absolutely not true. We have men on the Eastern Shore that have walked through our door and said, I have breast cancer.”

The walk will take place at the Centre at Salisbury on Saturday, October 12. Registration starts at 9 am. They designed the walk to not be too strenuous for those survivors who want to participate. For more information, visit their website or call 410-548-7880.
