Harrington woman reportedly arrested for stealing cell phone

On Friday, the Harrington Police Department says they arrested a 53-year-old woman for stealing a cell phone.

Police say they responded to the Food Lion in the Midway Shopping Center after the victim called to report his cell phone had been stolen.

According to the report, police determined that the victim was in line to buy his items, and when he left the store, he left his phone on the counter.

Witnesses reported to police that an unknown female took the phone, however one of the witnesses was familiar with the suspect and identified her as Phyllis Hurd.

Officials say they were able to contact Hurd via telephone, and she later turned herself into the Harrington Police Department.

Hurd was reportedly charged with one count of theft under $1,500 where the victim is 62 year of age or older, and she was processed and arraigned via video phone at Justice of the Peace Court 7 and was released on $1,000 unsecured bond.
