Gov. Hogan launches new push for more renewable energy

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Maryland Governor Larry Hogan announced some new initiatives on Wednesday that will push for more clean and renewable energy in the state.

Governor Hogan recently signed an executive order that establishes the Governor’s Task Force on Renewable Energy Development and Siting.

This task force will be required to identify state properties that could be used for solar and wind energy products.

Governor Hogan also announced the state is pledging 4 million dollars in grant money to help public institutions like community colleges to invest in solar energy on rooftops, in parking lots and other infrastructure.

“Part of this initiative is to set an example and to try to encourage the expansion of solar energy and to lower our energy cost while really not ruining the environment or taking over our agricultural lands,” said Hogan.

The Governor’s Task Force will be required to submit its initial findings in December 2019 with final recommendations due within a year.
