Local beach town starts safe ride home program for St. Patrick’s Day

Thousands on the peninsula are celebrating Saint Patty's day and some revelers can enjoy themselves, plus get home safely thanks to a new local program.

However, you do need to be a resident of Ocean Pines a the town is offering free rides home to those living within the town limits.

Ocean Pines manager Brian Townsend says, "We started the program because it's widely known that it's a great time of the year to celebrate but it's also a sad time for drunk drivers and we want to make sure we don't have those issues here in Ocean Pines. We want to make sure our residents are safe."

Townsend also tells us they hope to keep this program rolling for years to come.

The program actually started last weekend for the Ocean City St. Patrick's Day parade and runs until Saturday night.
