Threat investigated at Pittsville Elementary & Middle School
PITTSVILLE, Md. – The Pittsville community was on high alert Wednesday after a student made a threat against Pittsville Elementary and Middle School.
The Wicomico County Sheriff’s Department says a child threatened to shoot up the school, but they confirmed he never had access to any weapons. They found there to be no real threat, and school officials say they notified families about the incident. They released the following statement to WMDT:
“Yesterday afternoon our Pittsville Elementary & Middle School administrators were made aware of an alleged threat by a student as reported by other students on the bus. School administrators immediately engaged all relevant partners including our Safe Schools team and WCSO. In accordance with the WCPS Code of Conduct, discipline will be handled appropriately by the school administrators and law enforcement will determine actions in response to the alleged threat. There is not a concern at this time regarding the safety of PEMS students and staff. PEMS families were made aware of the alleged threat and the actions taking place to ensure the safety of all persons. WCPS encourages any person seeing or hearing anything of concern to act in the same manner as those who reported this to school administrators yesterday and to immediately reach out to school leadership with any concern.”
The Sheriff tells us no charges will be filed, but school officials say discipline will be handled appropriately.
