Delmar Tops Rival Laurel, Brings Lions Club Trophy Home

The Delmar football team battled to the very end and gutted out a 22-20 win over rival Laurel to earn the Lions Club Trophy. Jimmy Adkins would score the go-ahead touchdown in the 4th quarter, as the ‘Cats defense would close the door for an incredible win. The win improves the Wildcats to 2-2, while the Bulldogs fall to 2-2.
Delmar would come out and catch the Bulldogs by surprise by throwing the ball early and often. Though the ‘Cats would be able to move the ball up the field, they had a hard time punching it into the endzone. Their first drive would end with an interception after Adkins pass was picked off by Deon’Tre Parker. After Delmar got the ball back, they would drive into the redzone before Zion St. Jean would come up with a pick 6 to give Laurel the lead. The ‘Cats would then be the ones to respond after capping off a long drive with a short touchdown run from Brooks Parker. Laurel would answer right back, as Parker would find a crease, and break loose for a 33 yard touchdown run. Delmar though would come right back and get a touchdown pass from Adkins to Destin Ryder. Brooks would run in the 2 point attempt as the teams would be tied 14-14 at the break.
The teams would get into a defensive battle in the third as neither team would score. Then in the 4th, Adkins would be back at it. The senior quarterback would again lead his team down the field and finish the drive with a 13 yard touchdown off a keeper to the right side. Parker would add the 2 point conversion as the lead would stretch to 8. Laurel would fight back and get a touchdown run from Perez Nichols to get within 2. The Bulldogs would go for 2, but their run up the middle would get stuffed. Delmar’s defense would do the rest from there as they held on for a great win.
Delmar returns to work on Saturday when they host Lake Forest, while Laurel travels to Indian River on Friday.
