Delaware Fire Commission expands to support first responders

Groundbreaking Ceremony

DELAWARE – The Fire Commission in Delaware is having a Groundbreaking Ceremony to kick of the start of the construction of their new facility. The Fire Prevention Commission was created in 1952 and has always been housed in a small area located in the back of the Delaware State Fire School.

Executive Director Sherry Lambertson says the Commission has outgrown the space through additional responsibilities as well as staffing. She said they are excited to be able to be a supporting agency of the Delaware Fire and Ambulance Service.

She said that a lot of times, people don’t realize how much effort and energy it takes to do the work they do, and aside from needing a bigger office space, they need to expand to give first responders the resources they very much deserve. “Whether it be law enforcement, paramedics, or EMT, there’s a lot of stress and burnout that goes with those jobs… Adding a mental health support service to this agency, it just to be a proactive step for us as an agency to. meet the needs of those that we certify.”

The Groundbreaking Ceremony will be held on September 6th beginning at 11:00 a.m. at the Delaware State Fire Service Center at 463 Chestnut Grove Road Dover, DE  19904. They say construction is scheduled to begin in early September with Commissioners and legislative representatives digging the first piece of ground.
