Salisbury small business awarded funding from Maryland initiative

SALISBURY, Md. – Funding is on the way for small businesses across Maryland.

The Salisbury Dance Academy is just one of those local businesses getting help. Governor Wes Moore’s administration says it’s aiming to support local revitalization projects and activities on the Eastern Shore. 28 other businesses across Maryland will also receive the funding.

Housing and Community Development Secretary Jake Day says this funding is the start of a better economy in the state. “This is all about investing in Maryland’s economy, recognizing that as we build great places around great small businesses, that our economy will come roaring back,” said Secretary Jake Day, with the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development.

The Salisbury Dance Academy will be awarded from the Business Boost Microgrant Program. They originally bought the building downtown 10 years ago. The director of the dance academy, Elena Manakhova says this will accelerate renovations on the West Main Street location and relocate the academy from Fruitland.

Secretary Day says this is more than just a restoration project. “It will also help them to have working capital, to have the renovation capital dollars that they need, and support their business growth as they seek to add jobs and serve more families in Salisbury’s community,” said Secretary Day.

Secretary Day says this will also improve the quality of life for local businesses. Berlin’s Economic and Community Development also received some of this funding.
