Choptank River fishing pier future remains unclear
Cambridge, MD – The Choptank River fishing pier, formerly known as the Bill Burton Pier, was closed in 2021 by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources.
The closing was due to the old age, and the pier slowly breaking down into the Choptank, this has caused distress among fishermen who used the pier.
Mid Shore Fishing Club President Tom Wilkerson said the state has made a huge mistake that has caused long-term problems in Cambridge, a place that he considers a fishing town. “It needs to be fixed or replaced, that’s the bottom line, it’s a great resource for Cambridge the pier is, people use to come from other places and fish in that pier,” said Wilkerson.
The Mid Shore Fishing Club meets every third Thursday of the month at the Elks Lodge in Cambridge. All are welcome to attend.
