Light In The Night Memorial Service and Walk

Salisbury, Md. – On Saturday families, friends, and survivors will gather for a night filled with community and suicide prevention awareness.

The Somerset, Wicomico and Worcester County Health Departments will host Lights In The Night from 5 PM to 7:30 p.m. at WinterPlace Park in Salisbury. Officials say the event will feature a Memorial Wall and a walk to honor people who are struggling and loved ones lost to suicide. The goal, they say, is to remind those struggling that they are never alone.

“Grief can be a hard, long journey,” Wicmico County Health Department Program Coordinator Jessica Taylor said. “And when you have people to do it with you and to come alongside of you and say, you know what, I’ve been there. And, although the experience is not fun, we can do it together.”

The evening, according to health department officials, is dedicated to remembering those lost to suicide while supporting families and those striving for mental wellness, while “shattering stigma surrounding this devastating issue.” The event is free of cost and will feature a memorial wall. Those who would like to share a message in remembrance of their friends or loved ones that will displayed at this year’s event and yearly thereafter, can do so here.

The event will also include a dance performance by Salisbury Dance Academy, access to support resources, a walk to honor those lost and still struggling, a candle vigil and sharing circle as well as complimentary glow items and refreshments.

The candlelight vigil will conclude the evening around 7:00 p.m.
