UPDATE: Police investigating early morning shooting that left one dead in Laurel

LAUREL, Del. – Laurel Police are currently investigating a shooting that left one person dead and another injured early Monday morning.

Police say they were called to the Little Creek Apartment complex at around 1:30 a.m. for reports of shots fired in the area. Officers arrived at the scene to find a large crowd of people in the area and called in additional officers to assist with dispersing the crowd.

According to police, a 23-year-old man was found behind the 400 building suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. A second victim, a 26-year-old man, was treated at a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries related to a gunshot wound.

Preliminary investigation revealed that an unknown suspect or suspects fired multiple shots where the crowd had gathered, hitting the two victims as well as several cars and buildings.

The shooting remains under investigation, however, it is reportedly not believed to be a random act.
