April marks Stress Awareness Month, tips to tackle stress
DELMARVA – We all deal with stress and this month marks Stress Awareness month.
Health experts say that stress is a state of worry or mental tension caused by difficult situations. Ian Bolland with Balance Point Wellness says he is seeing mostly children impacted by stress coming off the back end of the pandemic. Some of the signs of stress include; difficulty concentrating, anxiety, irritability, high blood pressure, and weight changes.
Bolland says you should take care of yourself to better approach stress. “Be able to identify when you’re body is getting a bit heightened because then you’ll be able to know “OK I need to do something to really bring it down. They can do the stereotypical ways to decrease stress like deep breathing, take space, maybe some grounding techniques,” said Ian Bolland, Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor at Balance Point Wellness.
Bolland also recommends different coping mechanisms for different situations. He says they should be things that calm you but, also that you actually enjoy.
