Berlin to celebrate 156th birthday, fundraiser supports new community center
BERLIN, Md. – On March 30th, the Town of Berlin will celebrate its 156th birthday. It’s known as the ‘Coolest small town in America’ and has some unique history.
Notable moments include the movie “Runaway Bride” being filmed there back in 1999 and being the town being home to the Reverend Charles Albert Tindley.
To commemorate the milestone. the town is now selling flags and local merchants are placing them on their storefronts. We spoke with volunteers at Berlin Welcome Center about what makes the town so special. “I think it’s the small-town feel that makes people reminisce to their childhood. For younger people, they’re feeling what they’re grandparents and parents experienced,” Mike Wiley said. “People from Philly, Baltimore, the DC area, and other big cities come here and are just astounded by not only the architecture in the town but the town pride and our events.”
Flags are $30 and can be purchased at the Town Hall on weekdays from 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
A portion of proceeds will also support the Berlin Community Center.
