Nanticoke Harbor temporarily closed after sunken boat, fuel spill

NANTICOKE HARBOR – Nanticoke Harbor is temporarily closed Friday morning after a boat sank, causing a small fuel spill that prompted an overnight response and ongoing cleanup efforts.

According to officials, the harbor will remain closed for several hours while crews complete cleanup operations and ensure the waterway is safe to reopen.

Emergency services, parks staff, local fire departments and other responding agencies worked through the night to remove the sunken vessel from the water. Cleanup efforts began immediately after the incident but continued into the morning hours to allow crews to assess conditions in daylight.

Officials said the temporary closure is necessary to complete the remaining cleanup work and verify that the harbor is safe for public use.

Authorities thanked the responding agencies for their overnight efforts and asked the public for patience while the work is completed.

An update will be provided once Nanticoke Harbor is reopened.
