BHM: Greek Life

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. – We’re highlighting black Greek life.

Greek life involves fraternities and sororities coming together for a sense of unity and the Divine Nine is a group of nine historically Black Greek-letter organizations.
They make up the National Pan-Hellenic Council, promoting service and special programs to help a chapter’s local community.
We spoke with a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Alpha Omicron chapter at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore who shares why greek life is much bigger than just a social organization. “If you’re in a place and you’re able to give back, you should give back. I like to look at myself sometimes as a beacon in the sense of I’m able to help others when I can because I’ve been in positions as I didn’t have as much as I do now,” said Kristian Francis, member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
Alpha Omicron has weekly events that the public is welcome to attend. You can also learn more through campus activities.
