Suspect charged with murder in Salisbury homicide
SALISBURY, Md. – Maryland State Police have charged a woman in connection to the fatal stabbing of a man earlier this month in Salisbury.
According to police, the incident took place just after 6:30 a.m. on January 2nd, in the 800 block of South Division Street. Officers arrived at the scene and found the victim, identified as 34-year-old Daniel Mapes, suffering from an apparent stab wound. Mapes was taken to TidalHealth Peninsula Regional, where he died on January 6th from his injuries.
The suspect, 20-year-old Trenee Gattis, was initially arrested at the scene by Salisbury Police and taken to the Wicomico County Detention Center on first and second degree attempted murder, first and second degree assault, concealment of a dangerous weapon, and reckless endangerment charges. However, since the victim died from his injuries, she has now been charged by Maryland State Police with first and second degree murder, first and second degree assault, reckless endangerment, and intent to injure with a dangerous weapon.
She remains held without bond.
