Dewey Beach crews cleaning up following Tuesday night storm, some flooding persists
DEWEY BEACH, Del. – The Town of Dewey Beach is still seeing the impact from the heavy rain Tuesday night.
“What we really saw was some extreme flooding from the Bay during the high tides last night in our lower end, which is the south end of Dewey Beach, which is prone to flooding,” says Town Manager Tom Zolper.
Dewey Beach officials say fortunately the town’s pump station worked exactly as planned last night, keeping up with the rainwater as best it could.
“We did have a couple of trees down in the North end of Town and our maintenance team was out this morning and has already cleared those trees,” says Zolper. “We have one fence that blew over last night and we’re contacting the property owner on that.”
There were some areas of flooding on Reed and Rodney Streets and while the water will recede it’s not done rising just yet.
“We’ll probably have one more high tide later this afternoon/tonight that’ll effect those streets also, but then after that we hope the weather improves until this weekend, when we’re supposed to get more rain,” says Zolper.
Zolper shared his thanks to both the town maintenance team and the Dewey Beach Police Department for their hard and quick work in handling everything that was thrown their way. He is also thanking residents for helping to secure their properties in the flood prone areas.
