Police: Felton school bus crash sends 11 students to local hospitals

Police say that they are investigating a school bus crash that happened on Thursday afternoon right outside of Lake Forest High School, and that sent 11 students to area hospitals in Felton.
According to Delaware State Police, around 2:32 p.m on Thursday afternoon, a 75-year-old Harrington man was driving a 2009 international school bus northbound out of the Lake Forest High School parking lot on Killens Pond Road.
That's when police say, the bus failed to come to a complete stop and continued out onto Killens Pond where it pulled into the path of an eastbound 1995 Jeep Wrangler being driven by an 18-year-old girl. The jeep reportedly struck the bus on the left side and both cars came to a stop in the roadway.
Police say the 18-year-old who is a student at Lake Forest High School was wearing a seat belt and was taken by EMS to an area hospital where she was treated and released for non-life threatening injuries.
The 75-year-old bus driver was also wearing a seat belt and was uninjured in the crash.
There were 31 Lake Forest High school students on the bus at the time of the crash. They were taken back into the school and evaluated by medical staff and EMS. 10 of them were taken to area hospitals either by ambulance or private cars where they were being treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Troopers say they are continuing their investigation into the crash and charges may be forthcoming. Killens Pond Road in the area of the crash was closed for about an hour while the crash was investigated and cleared.
