Ocean City Beach Patrol preparing to weather the storm
OCEAN CITY, Md. – Ocean City Beach Patrol is preparing to weather the storm with limited staffing.
Rip currents are a major risk with this potential tropical storm, and not safe for any kind of in-water activity.
Plus, OCBP has limited staffing with the summer season being over.
OCBP Captain Butch Arbin says they will be removing anything from the beach that can become wind blown or moved by the water as levels rise, including all life guard stands.
“The town is going to be closing the sea gates along the boardwalk so the sand and water does not go past the seawall,” Arbin said. “That is normal preparation, whether it be for a hurricane or a tropical storm.
“It is just trying to minimize the amount of water and sand that gets transported on to the beach and on the roadways.”
Captain Arbin says that Sunday is the biggest concern for the weekend in terms of storm severity.
After this weekend, life guards will no longer be patrolling the beach throughout the day.
