Man arrested for DUI in stolen vehicle
REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. – A Wilmington man has been charged after he was found to be driving a stolen car while under the influence.
During the morning hours of August 13th, troopers responded to Somerset Road in Rehoboth Beach after a homeowner discovered that his Toyota Corolla had been stolen overnight. The victim later found out that the vehicle had been towed to a local tow yard earlier that day after the driver, identified as 52-year-old Joseph Nygard, had been arrested for DUI.
Troopers then learned that Nygard had stolen the car and had been charged with DUI before the car was reported stolen. Nygard was charged with DUI and released, and had since returned to Wilmington.
On August 18th, Nygard reportedly turned himself in to Troop 1, where he was charged with theft of a motor vehicle, theft under $1500 where the victim is 62 years of age or older, theft under $1500, and second degree criminal trespass. He was released on his own recognizance.
