Bird scooters ordinance language to be updated
SALISBURY, Md. – The scooters you’ve probably seen lying across the sidewalk are on the city’s agenda.
The Bird scooters have been available to ride just over a year in Salisbury and though they may be fun to get around in the city, officials urge that residents are courteous when it comes to putting the scooters away.
City Council President Muir Boda says that when the scooters are left on the side of the road, it’s a disservice to others. “When people are done using them and they’re just laying them down wherever and if it’s a sidewalk and they block a sidewalk if there’s someone whose in a wheelchair or they have a disability it’s difficult for them to move the bird scooters because they’re very heavy,” said Boda.
Council President Muir Boda also says the University of Maryland System said there are no scooters allowed on campuses so the Bird scooters have been removed from Salisbury University.
The city is looking to keep the bird scooters in use but ensure there is easy access to all sidewalks, so they will be addressing this at an upcoming council meeting.
