Hundreds show their support during OC’s Women’s March

Saturday morning,  hundreds of residents marched down the boardwalk of Ocean City. Folks and children were chanting.

The Democratic Women's Club of Worcester County tells 47 ABC they organized this march after realizing that not all their club members could attend the march in D.C., but wanted to still show support.

"We kind of tossed the idea of a local march," says Kathy Emmert, one of the Co-Presidents of the club.

Emmert tells us they thought only 50 people were going to attend, but to her surprise hundreds of locals showed up in support.

"I couIdn't make it to D.C.'s so I wanted to come out here and just show my support for everyone's rights," says Victoria Miller.

"Basically we just want be seen, and we want to be heard, and we want the new administration to know that we're here," says Janelle Mulholland.

Organizers and attendees of the Women's March in Ocean City made it clear, the event is not in protest of President Donald Trump. The 45th Commander in Chief  was sworn into office just 24 hours before the march.

"This is a pro-woman march, a pro-children march, I don't think he is the problem. He is a symptom of really deep-seeded racism and sexism in this country.," says Diana Wagner.

Attendees and organizers  tell us the purpose of this march is to walk in solidarity and to send a message to the new administration that women's rights and the rights of all people cannot be ignored.

"Equal rights for women, equal pay for women, sexism in general.  We just want our side to be heard," says Doris Fields, one of the Co-Presidents of the club.

Organizers tell us, it starts by treating everyone equally and treating them with respect.

"Muslims, gays, lesbians, African Americans, we're all in this together and if we work together we have a better country," says Emmert.
