BERLIN, Md. – The Maryland State Highway Administration will activate a new traffic signal in Worcester County next week.

The newly installed signal at Route 589 near Taylorville Road will be activated on Tuesday, June 20th. The new signal will initially be placed on flash mode for 72 hours to familiarize motorists with the new signal before becoming fully operational on Friday, June 23rd.

Portable message signs will be in place to alert motorists to the new signal.

Construction on the signal began in March to accommodate the new Atlantic General Medical Center. Nearly 20,000 vehicles use this section of Route 589 daily, and that number is projected to increase with the addition of the medical center.
