UPDATE: Crash claims life of police officer in Queen Anne’s County
UPDATE: The Centreville Police Department has confirmed that the victim in this crash was a member of their department.
The department released the following statement on their Facebook page:
“It is with deep regret, and heartfelt sorrow that we announce the untimely passing of one of our own today, Officer Sam Ferracane. His family, friends, and colleagues are in our thoughts and prayers as we traverse these difficult roads ahead. My sincere and heartfelt condolences to the Ferracane family specifically on this tragic passing of such a courageous man. His sacrifice will be forever remembered and I hope that the outpouring of love to his family will help in some small way during this extremely difficult time. Officer Sam Ferracane will be escorted from the Maryland Medical Examiner’s Office in Baltimore, MD tomorrow 05/23/2023 to Denton, MD by multiple allied agencies. QUEEN ANNE’S CO., Md. – Maryland State Police are investigating a fatal crash that happened Monday morning in Queen Anne’s County.
At around 9 am., troopers responded to Route 404 and Cordova Road for a reported two-vehicle crash. It was determined through preliminary investigation that a box truck was stopped at a red light at the intersection. For unknown reasons, a Nissan Frontier failed to slow down and crashed into the back of the box truck.
The driver of the Nissan, identified as 53-year-old Sam Ferracane of Centreville, was taken by MSP helicopter to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where he was declared dead.
The crash remains under investigation.
