Millions of dollars coming to Delmarva to support clean water initiatives
DELMARVA – States across the Mid-Atlantic are set to receive millions in funding to strengthen water infrastructure.
Here on the shore, Delaware is set to receive $6,061,000 and Maryland will receive $18,326,000 as part of President Joe Biden’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. The clean water funding will upgrade essential wastewater and stormwater systems, ultimately protecting the public’s health from troubled bodies of water.
47 ABC spoke with Clean Water Action who says pipelines across the region are in bad condition. “Most of the Delmarva region is on combined sewage water overflows, which leads to a lot of pollution due to just the nature of them, they’re older style, that largely need to be replaced,” Sean Jackson, the National Water Campaign Coordinator, for Clean Water Action.
Jackson says this is substantial enough to meet requirements, however, it’s not enough to fix all of the work that needs to be done on Delmarva.
