Decatur suffers first loss of season to Potomac (VA)

The Stephen Decatur Seahawks suffered their first loss of the season 55-54 in overtime to Virginia 5A Potomac on Thursday night at the Governor's Challenge.
The Seahawks got 15 points a piece from big man Keve Aluma and Kevon Voyles in the loss. Tied at the half, Decatur would mount up a 9-point lead with 3:39 left in the third quarter. Potomac began to cut into the lead, led by senior forward Byron Scriber (12 points, 11 rebounds) and would take the lead before the end of the third. In the fourth, Decatur would be led back by Voyles, hitting a number of runners to cut into Potomac's lead. Voyles final bucket came with less than 10 seconds remainining in the game, when he drove the left baseline and tied the game up. Decatur would have one more shot to win it after Voyles blocked an Ely' Camp runner with less than 5 seconds left in the game, but Gary Briddell's half court attempt clanked off the back of the rim.
In the overtime, Potomac would lead by by one, and come up with a big rebound and run-out, with Camp finishing the lay-in on the other end. Needing a three, Decatur would fail on a couple attempts, before settling for a tip-in just as the buzzer sounded.
The loss is the first of the season for the Seahawks, who we're outrebounded 45-33. They finish the Governor's Challenge with a 1-1 record.
