75-Year-Old Airlifted to Burn Unit After Salisbury Rowhome Fire

SALISBURY, Md. – A 75-year-old was airlifted to a burn center and two others were displaced after a Salisbury rowhome caught fire on Thursday afternoon.

At 12:35 p.m. on Jul. 30, crews with the Salisbury Fire Department and other area companies responded to a five-unit rowhome on Tangier Street after neighbors discovered a fire at the end unit. A total of 25 firefighters battled the blaze for half an hour before bringing the flames under control. The total damage to the house and its contents is estimated to be valued at $8,000.

An elderly victim was removed from the unit of origin by firefighters and transported to a local hospital for treatment, before being later transported by aviation to a burn center. The victim, as well as two occupants of the neighboring unit, were displaced and are being assisted by the American Red Cross. 

While the Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal continues to investigate the preliminary cause of the fire, no evidence of foul play has been located at this time.
