DOVER, Del. – Some exciting news for Delaware State University, the school broke multiple records regarding student enrollment.

One surpasses 6,200 total students for the first time in its 131-year history. That’s a 33% increase since 2017. School officials tell us this couldn’t be done without the efforts of students, faculty, and community support. Along with the university’s focus to provide accessible education to all backgrounds. “Most students are looking at not only a great school but when they get here what do they get from us? We’re excited about them choosing us year after year and its always wonderful when more students choose to come to Delaware State and more living on campus and a much more diverse population of students,” says Tony Boyle, Senior Vice President of Strategic Enrollment Management and Student Affairs for the university.

In response to the achievement: “We are here to serve our communities. and how do we do that? By opening our arms to be the most diverse, contemporary HBCU in the world? and what does that mean? Everyone is welcome to Delaware State University. That is our mantra and we are happy to say that,” says Boyle.

This is also DSU’s largest freshman class. University officials tell us this is just the beginning, the University has more records to break! “Delaware State University is open for business. We’re open to students desiring an associate’s degree, baccalaureate degree, the master’s degree, the doctoral degree, we’re open for business,” says Boyle.

University President Tony Allen attributes these achievements to the state funded Inspire Scholarship Program, expansion of its Early College School, and emphasis on the university’s graduate and online programs.

  • Of the nearly 700 first-year in-state students, 67% are INSPIRE scholars.
  • The current first-year class totals more than 1,400.
  • Graduate enrollment saw a significant year-over-year increase at 5.7%.
