Threatening text messages just a scam, police say

Maryland State Police in Berlin say they have been getting reports of threatening text messages being sent out to local cell phones.

Police say these text messages are just a scam and advise to not respond to them.

The scam messages say, "I've been paid to kill you but wish to spare you. Inform the police or anyone else you die," and tell recipients to email a Hotmail account.

Police say these messages are coming from "isigman@conejousd.org." If you receive a text message from this email, do not respond.

MSP say the scam is being investigated by multiple agencies.
