Local partnership helps raise funds for the 14 neglected dogs rescued last month in Delaware

For every single pour of beer, a single dollar is donated to help the 14 neglected dogs rescued from a Georgetown property last month.

This was included in Thursday night's happy hour special at the Crooked Hammock Brewery in Lewes.

Owner Rich Garrahan, says "We're doing it to raise exposure for a really awesome fundraiser that a local guitar maker is doing."

Garrahan is talking about Nicholas Lee.

The brewery and Lee are both raising money for the Brandywine Valley SPCA, the location where 14 neglected dogs are being rehabilitated.

It was the day before Thanksgiving, almost exactly one month ago, when the animals were rescued from a Georgetown property in various states of neglect.

The Department of Public Health found them emaciated and riddled with parasites. There were even four dogs found dead.

Delaware Animal Services called this one of the worst cases of animal abuse the state has ever seen.

Lee says when he first heard of the story, he knew the dogs would need extensive rehab as they were extremely close to death. He states he knew something had to be done.

Now, Lee is using his skill of making guitars to make a better life for the dogs. He has set up a GoFundMe page with a goal of $35,000.

Lee owns Nicholas Lee's Guitars and they have dedicated one custom built guitar for each of the dogs. They are raffling for every $10 donated to the GoFundMe page. For every $10 pledge, they will enter your name in the drawing. If you donate $50, you get 5 raffles. And if you donate $100, you'll receive 10 entries and so on.

The page has already raised more than $14,000 in just 23 days.

We're told each dollar will go directly to the welfare of these dogs and anything raised beyond $14,000 will go to future adopters.

Lee says that money will go to the foster families for food and probable surgeries and things that could be needed in the future.

And with the team up of Nicholas Lee Guitars and the Crooked Hammock, both are excited to see the positive community response.

Nicholas tells us he had planned to have the raffle drawing take place on Christmas Day, but donations still continue to pour in. He says he might just push it back until New Year's Day. He plans to make an official announcement about when the drawing will be in the next 24 hours.
