Traffic stop leads to arrest on drug charges
MILLSBORO, Del. – Delaware State Police arrested a Millsboro man after they found him to be in possession of drugs during a traffic stop Thursday evening.
At around 7 PM, a trooper witnessed a dark blue 2004 Ford Explorer fail to use a turn signal when turning right onto Iron Branch Road from Old Landing Road. The trooper initiated a traffic stop as a result, and the driver, 33-year-old James Eley, allegedly tried to flee on foot from police but was caught.
Police began a search of the vehicle and located approximately 7800 bags of heroin (54.6 grams), as well as more than $500 in suspected drug proceeds.
Eley was arrested and charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance in a Tier 4 quantity, possession of a controlled substance in a Tier 5 quantity, resisting arrest, failure when moving right, left, or turning to signal, and failure to have registration plate light.
He is currently being held at the Sussex Correctional Institution on $61,000 cash only bond.
