Wall of Honor in Harrington vandalized
HARRINGTON, Del. – Police in Harrington have a troubling case to solve. 47 ABC learned that the Wall of Honor at the local museum was vandalized with almost $10,000 worth of damage.
The Greater Harrington Historical Society says bricks were taken off and apparently used to scratch up engraved names on the wall that was created to memorialize loved ones.
The curator of the Greater Harrington Historical Society, Doug Poore, tells 47 ABC that the Wall of Honor is important for the community but also for the expansion of their museum. “It’d be like desecrating to me a cemetery marker for someone’s loved one that’s what really those bricks mean to them. It’s important to the museum, if our insurance doesn’t cover it, $10,000, our budget is only $16,000, that’s almost 2/3 of our budget gone to repair the damage that was done,” Poore says.
We’re told that if they sold every single brick on that Wall of Honor, they could raise up to $25,000. They hope to expand their efforts so they can add an archive room for research and to showcase all of their artifacts since they cannot do that currently.
