Checkpoint Strikeforce nabs 12 more impaired drivers in Delaware

The Office of Highway Safety in Delaware reports that law enforcement made 12 DUI arrests on Saturday in checkpoints held around the state.
The December 10th checkpoint was the last of of four nights in the department's "Checkpoint Strikeforce" program. More than 18,000 cars passed through these checkpoints during the program's course. In total, 59 drivers were arrested for driving under the influence over the four nights.
Community Relations Officer for OHS Lisa Flowers says the cost of impaired driving is higher than most realize.
"When someone is arrested for a DUI, not only do they spend thousands in fines, fees and court costs, and potentially face jail time, they also have a criminal record," Flowers said. "More importantly, driving impaired puts them, as well as others, at risk and in harm's way."
Delaware roads have seen 39 deaths due to impaired driving and 3,777 DUI arrests this year up to December 10th.
