Georgetown man charged with burglary for breaking into abandoned residence

MILFORD, Del. – A Georgetown man is facing burglary charges after he allegedly broke into an abandoned residence and attempted to sell property that didn’t belong to him.

Just before 8 PM on November 4th, Milford Police responded to a potential burglary in progress in the 100 block of SE Second St. The reporting person told police that they had observed approximately three sets of flashlights on inside an abandoned residence.

On arrival, police found three subjects inside the abandoned residence, and all three were detained.

Further investigation led police to learn that one of the subjects, identified as 35-year-old Antoine Sturgis, had told the other two subjects that he had appliances for sale. All three subjects then went to the abandoned residence so that Sturgis could sell the appliances to the other two subjects.

Officers contacted the property owner, who told them that Sturgis had no ownership over the appliances he was trying to sell. Sturgis also reportedly damaged a door at the residence.

Sturgis was charged with second degree burglary, attempted theft by false pretense under $1,500, and criminal mischief under $1000. He was presented and committed to the Department of Correction in default of $1,750 secured bail due to his intoxication, but was later released on unsecured bail. A no contact order was also issued between Sturgis and the victim.
