Traffic stop reveals weapons, drugs in Laurel

LAUREL, Del. – A Dover man is facing multiple charges following a traffic stop that revealed weapons and drugs Monday afternoon.

Around 12:41 p.m. Monday, a trooper on patrol spotted 27-year-old Arthur Darden speeding and changing lanes with no turn signal in the area of Sussex Highway and Gordy Road. Darden was pulled over, and troopers observed signs of impairment. Inside Darden’s vehicle were open alcohol containers, as well. Darden was arrested without incident.

A further search of the vehicle revealed 13.79 grams of marijuana, a pair of brass knuckles, and a 9mm handgun. A computer search revealed Darden is a convicted felon, prohibited from possessing a firearm. Darden was taken to Troop 5, and charged with multiple offenses.

Darden is charged with possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, and possession of a firearm while possessing a controlled substance. He is also charged with possession of marijuana, carrying a concealed dangerous instrument, and possession of a firearm while under the influence. Darden is also facing charges for driving under the influence, speeding, and improper lane change.

Darden was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court #2, and was taken to Sussex Correctional Institution on $11,300 cash bond.
