A walk to bring awareness to human trafficking

CAMBRIDGE, Md. – In recognition of ‘Human Trafficking Awareness Month,’ the Eastern Shore Human Trafficking task force along with Harriet’s House will hold a ‘Walk for Freedom’ on Saturday.

Both organizations say, human trafficking is a growing problem, and women and children, unfortunately, have a higher chance of being victims. They say that this weekend’s walk furthers their efforts to shed light on a serious problem, while also educating people on how to be on the lookout for human trafficking.

Julie Crain, Executive Director at Harriet’s House tells 47 ABC, technology has added another way for people to become human trafficking victims. “With parents giving their kids tablets and cell phones, that they need to really be aware of who their friends are on social media and what things that they’re looking at,” says Crain.

However, she’s now is a good time to bring awareness to this problem, because it can happen to anyone. “A lot of people still don’t think it happens here, they think it may happen in other countries or more populated areas human trafficking happens everywhere.”

The walk starts at 9 a.m. on Saturday at the Gerry Boyle Park at Great Marsh in Cambridge.
