Former golf course returns to nature by joining Pocomoke River State Park

SNOW HILL, Md. – Over 200 acres of what used to be the Nassawango Golf and Country club will serve as land for a local state park.

The former golf course will now be a part of the Pocomoke River State Park, giving them over 1000 acres of pristine preserved natural land.

These fields, which used to be well-maintained golf greens, are to be re-purposed to provide access to the Pocomoke River Water Trail as well as additional recreation opportunities for the local community.

“We would initially start probably with day use operations opening up the property for some hiking and walking trails. We do have water access so it would be working to make some waterways improvements so that folks could actually paddle into the property,” explains State Park Ranger Sineva Smith.

They will be holding public input meetings where local residents, visitors, and community stakeholders can provide input and ideas on what they would like to see here at the new location.
