SBY events become a bit greener thanks to new grants

Salisbury is taking steps to make city events greener.  When you go to city events now you will find about 50 blue recycling baskets and 50 green compost baskets.

This is all thanks to two grants awarded to Salisbury through the Coca Cola Foundation and the Keep America Beautiful Public Space Recycling Grant program.

The baskets come as the city is continuing efforts to become zero-waste ahead of September's Folk Festival.

"It seems to be everywhere in the media, going strawless, composting," said Julia Glanz, the Salisbury city administrator.  "We believe in Salisbury that it is incredibly important for our environment, for the health of our rivers, financially for our taxpayers if we can divert waste from the landfill that's helping our tax payers go toward other things."

The National Folk Festival Green Team and the City's Green Team volunteers were on the scene helping visitors sort their trash.
