Elementary school reopens amid murder investigation
DOVER, Del. – School officials in the Capital School District are alerting parents and students that Towne Point Elementary will reopen Thursday, August 30th after being closed due to a shooting investigation.
The Dover Police Department is continuing to investigate a fatal shooting that took place overnight on school grounds. They do believe it was an isolated incident and have a person of interest.
School officials say that there will be an enhanced police presence around the school Thursday. There will also be extra counselors and social workers available to help with questions and concerns.
In a press release the school district says:
“As always, our children’s safety is our primary concern. We understand that this has caused anxiety throughout our Towne Point School Community and hope that we can continue our school year in a positive way.”
