Residents voice concerns over potential Old Orchard Rd development coming to Millsboro

"Appalled, absolutely appalled," said Captain's Grant resident Pam Egnatovich.

"I often wonder if it's kind of too late," said another said another resident Frank Fitzpatrick.

Some Millsboro residents say they're furious after learning about this application that was recently submitted by a developer to turn a 60 acre cornfield into another housing development that would be built directly between Captain's Grant and Orchard Manor communities. Traffic, congestion, and more are just some of the numerous concerns they have for the proposed project.

"It's going to be more noise, it's just not going to be a pretty thing.Oak Orchard road is not built for that many more people," said Egnatovich.

But officials say as the town of Millsboro continues to grow, the supply and demand for housing has also increased. And they say now is the perfect time to strike while the iron's hot.

"Sussex county has been growing, is growing, and is going to continue to grow in the foreseeable future. It's a desirable place to live. It's not unusual for people to prefer not to have anything developed than to have something developed," said the attorney for the developer James Fuqua.

Other residents like Viola Richberg Gray say they actually support the potential new development.

"I've been here since 2002 and I just feel as though that you can't stop progress. If I stay here I may wind up with the fence back here that I didn't have to put it myself so I'm not really worried about it," said Gray.

But the residents against the project say they're not going down without a fight as they hope to address Delaware officials about their concerns.

"Ehere are a lot of people against it and maybe the council will sit up and take notice that those of us around here or not for this,"said Egnatovich.
