Wilmington Man Arrested for Armed Robbery of Smyrna Smoke Shop

SMYRNA, Del. – Authorities have arrested a a Wilmington man in connection with the armed robbery of a smoke shop in Smyrna.

Police have arrested 32-year-old Isaiah Council on charges of first degree robbery, possessing a firearm during the commission of a felony, aggravated menacing, terroristic threatening, and related charges. He was arraigned and committed to the Department of Corrections in lieu of $125,100 cash bail.

On the afternoon of Friday, May 22, officers responded to the Smokiez Smoke Shop located on North Dupont Highway for a reported armed robbery that had just occurred. A police investigation revealed that upon entering the smoke shop, Council, while wearing a disguise, approached an employee and requested cigars. Upon receiving the cigars, Council produced a black handgun before demanding vape products and money. He then fled the store with an undisclosed amount of US currency and vape products.

Detectives positively identified Council through investigative means and subsequently issued a warrant for his arrest. On Saturday, Jun. 20, Council was taken into custody by the Wilmington Police Department regarding a separate incident.
