Worcester County Commissioners Agree to Create Written Non-Disclosure Agreement Policy

SNOW HILL, Md. –  The Worcester County Commissioners unanimously agreed to create a written policy, regarding transparency surrounding government officials signing non-disclosure agreements, during a meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 20th.

County Commissioner Eric Fiori, lead the push for the shift.

“I think it’s extremely important for Worcester to expose their policy and have it clear and concise, exactly what the employees can and can’t sign with the approval processes, and then with the County Commissioners themselves, what standards they have to hold before an NDA would be entered.” Said Fiori.

Fiori explained that the increase of interest from tech companies in Worcester County inspired the effort.

“Nationally, tech companies in particular in today’s market, and how challenging it is for these tech companies to be entering in data centers and cable landings, many of our government officials and government employees have been asked to sign non-disclosure agreements or NDAs.” Said Fiori.

The policy aims to bring discussions regarding confidentiality requests, like NDA’s, to the public’s eye. Board President Ted Elder explained that there already was a soft-policy in place, but a written amendment would encourage visibility with the Worcester County community.

“We’ve always been trying to keep transparency going.” Said Elder. “So this is just another step in that direction.”

The next time the Worcester County Commissioners meet, will be on Wednesday, Nov. 4th.
