MDOT Statewide Investment Tour Visits the Mid-Shore

MDOT officials visit three Eastern Shore counties to seek input

(DENTON, Md) – As part of their Statewide Investment Tour. The Maryland Department of Transportation meets with local leadership in each of the state’s 24 counties, and Tuesday has MDOT officials starting in Caroline County as they work their way through the Mid-Shore.

The goal for MDOT is the same across Caroline, Talbot, and Dorchester Counties Tuesday…

“This is our opportunity to provide them with an overview of the plan. But really, the purpose of these tours is to hear from them. So I think we’ll hear more of the same. But in each county, we usually hear about the things that are of specific interest to them,” says Maryland Transportation secretary, Kathryn Thompson.

In their annual statewide investment tour, MDOT is looking to see what needs have to be met in the more than 21 billion dollar investment in roads across the state.

Thompson tells WMDT, “The common theme that we’re hearing is, are we investing enough in the safety of the system so that roadway users feel safe using it? And what you heard here today in Caroline County is are we investing enough in, the state of good repair, which is the condition of the roads…”

And that’s important for first responders in Caroline County.

Especially in an area where there is plenty of drivers traveling to destinations in Maryland and Delaware.

“So those, people going on vacation or traveling through the county, if there is an unfortunate incident, have to be transported by our staff to neighboring jurisdictions where hospitals or emergency rooms are located,” says Caroline County Commission President, Travis Breeding.

MDOT met with the Talbot County Council Tuesday afternoon, and the Dorchester County Council Tuesday evening.
